At Yell, a huge focus of our work is using empathy to truly understand our clients’ customers so that we can deliver better, more useful experiences for them.
In this spirit of empathy, this year we decided that with so much disruption and suffering being caused by fires all over the country, we should do what we can to help.
With this in mind, the team at Yell chose to make donations on our clients’ behalf to the following charities:
Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund
The Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery team supports people in need in times of disasters – including the bushfires we’re currently seeing across NSW, Qld and SA.
This includes help to prepare, a safe place to take shelter, psychological first aid, information, and practical support through the months and even years it can take to recover.
The vast majority of the team are volunteers, so the Disaster Relief and Recovery fund covers their costs, including training, equipment and transport as well as the co-ordination effort to ensure the Red Cross’s teams are where the community needs them to be.

Beyond Blue
The impact of devastating bushfires is felt by communities long after the flames are extinguished, and those affected may experience negative emotions including shock, fear, distress, confusion, anger, anxiety, grief and depression.
Beyond Blue provides 24/7 access to mental health professionals to support those who are feeling overwhelmed and help them work towards the difficult tasks of repairing and rebuilding their homes and communities.
Beyond Blue and the Red Cross also have a Memorandum of Understanding to work collaboratively when emergencies and disasters cross over with depression and anxiety, sharing knowledge and expertise in their programs, education, training and research.

WIRES Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation
WIRES is Australia’s largest wildlife rescue organisation with a mission to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife and inspire others to do the same.
In times of bushfires, WIRES needs as many trained volunteers as possible to help them provide the most appropriate help for native animals across the state. Donations also support WIRES’ ongoing rescue and care work and enable us to better respond to emergency events as they occur.
